Helpful tip: Use your car's air recirculation button in the summer

It is HOT out there, and there are a few things you can do in your car to survive the heat.

Most cars have a recirculation button as part of the a/c controls. What this does is take the air from inside the car and recirculate it instead of pulling in fresh air from the outside.

When it’s extremely hot outside, it is more efficient for your car to recirculate air that is already cooled in the car than to pull in hot air to cool from outside.

It’s also healthier to use the recirculate option when you’re stuck in traffic. That way you’re not sitting on the highway pulling in pollutants from the cars around you.

One thing to note: When you first get in your car, it may be extremely hot because your car has been sitting in the sun. In this case, roll your windows down to let that hot air escape and turn off the recirculate button. Once the inside of the car cools down, you can roll up the windows and use the recirculate button again.
